Dabi being a Todaroki is just a theory. Given what we know so far, it is a plausible background for this character. So I don't think believing or hoping that he is a Todaroki is foolish. You're just working with the information you currently have. Until the author actually reveals Dabi's past history we're free to go with whatever theories we want.
