I feel that is exactly what it is. I mean, why did he fall for Khaol? Sure Khaol is hot and whatever, but I feel like River never had a "chance". Like he fell for Khaol because he "had" to. First his grandma pushes her beliefs on her grandkids, then one grandkid is like " f*ck this $hit, I'm gonna go to the party my friends are throwing me for my 18th birthday like a normal teen" and the other grandkid is like " I'll play along w/ granny's delusion because she's been good to me since my parents divorced" and it wasn't a delusion, grandma literally gifted her grandchild to some supernatural being. At least they didn't have sex immediately after " marrying", but overall in all honesty I can't see any reason for River to love Khaol except that his feelings come from lust Cus he finds the guy hot,or pity Cus Khaol has had a sh*tty past. That still does not justify Khaol treating the poor love struck kid as a commodity.
I still don't know how I feel about it. A part of me doesn't like it, but another part of me is like " you already spend ink on this, so you can't drop it", but I feel like River got the short end of the stick no matter how you look at it. I doubt he won't end up with Khaol, but honestly speaking Khaol has been less than kind to him and he doesn't really deserve River. I haven't followed up w/ season 2, so I dunno if the bad taste in my mouth will go away with season 2, but for the time being I'm leaning more towards I kinda don't like the story very much.
