    It's like a saying. They mean whenever something good happens, they're waiting for something bad to happen. Usually when things are going too well, something bad might happen. I hope this cleared it up for you.

    In the tenements of New York City in the late 19th and early 20th century, apartments were built with bedrooms on top of one another.
