Well, if we are doing it by the letter, it was still rape - Kaede was penetrated multiple times, while being clearly unwilling and unresponsive. In fact, he was forcibly drunk (literally, in their first night) so he could offer no resistance to the acts, which in Brazil is called "rape of vulnerable person". The fact that Ren just left him in literal pain (again, he was drunk and under aphrodisiacs, so it really hurt) AFTER the legal rapes made him not only a rapist but also an ass.
I am not trying to pick a fight or anything, I actually like this manga and the story, but Ren is an asshole who is slowly getting better - he was not, by any means, always a great person/wolf.

oh yea ren should have told him what was in the drink 100% that was a dick move, and he thought his family told kaede everything... dude they didnt tell him shit! and like no YOU should have double checked. and he from a different culture too so he doesnt know how the wolf tribe works. and i also get it he couldn't control himself so he just ups and leaves, but that was a mistake he shouldn't have left his bride to be when he was so vulnerable, because look what happen! that dick of a cousin did to our little kaede. i get why ren would be mad at his cousin... but this what happen when you dont speak to each other. if kaede didnt snap and started making ren talking to him who know what would have happen; i agree its good story and i hope ren becomes less of an ass ┑( ̄Д ̄)┍

How do you explain to someone that you just met that you have a tendency to go full on carnal wolf with no control whatsoever? lol They've probably--well-- more than likely had issues with this in the past with Ren which is why they chose someone from the rabbit clan. Don't know the reason as to why it had to be a rabbit but it clearly has something to do with Ren's inability to control his shifting. He was probably afraid it would end with Kaede running away terrified of being eaten. Then they'd have to start all over again with someone else. He's only being an ass 'cause he feels like he can't get attached. He's even cold towards his family and it's probably for some reason they haven't revealed yet.

You can still rape a spouse if it is against their will. They might have an agreement but if Ren went feral and Kaede didn't want to do it it's still rape. And potentially very dangerous for Kaede's life if Ren shifted into a wolf and lost his ability to control himself. He takes medicine every day to prevent shifting spontaneously so who's to say that if he got too riled up by Kaede that he wouldn't shift and force himself on the much smaller rabbit?
Also, they aren't even officially married yet and Ren told Kaede that it was tradition to not have intercourse till after the ceremony. What they are doing is literally just the preparation phase and nothing else. Ren is trying to protect the tradition and Kaede from potential danger. Who's to even say it'll be safer for them to have sex after the ceremony? There's an obvious reason as to why they had to choose a rabbit that they haven't explained yet but that doesn't change the fact that Ren KNOWS he has the potential to severely injure someone--or even kill if he lost control.

Yeah and I understand that. I had that in mind when I was typing this out. It's just good that now we have a face to the reason why he had to act the way he did. He's unstable as a being that can shift into a powerful creature. The fact that all it took was finding something out--what Yuushi did to Kaede-- even if he was on his medicine (we don't know if he was or not but now we know what he takes every morning when Kaede comes back) to make him shift and lose control who's to say that he wouldn't do the same if he got too riled up? If I remember correctly they tried with someone else before Kaede or at least had something happen in the past between two people from the same tribe and learned that there has to be a certain way to go about it. Ren obviously didn't want to drag anyone into this whole mess by the way he was acting but he had no choice. Back then family and tradition was everything to the Japanese. To go against it would mean being disowned and left to die. Sometimes they even sold off the unwilling family members to another family against their will--much like how Kaede was used as a bargaining chip to secure the safety of his village. Tho, they didn't do that to him maliciously and did it with hopes that he would end up happier.

Ohp I didn't realize you were replying to the other person when I replied to you earlier lol
But yeah. I can understand that what Ren did was shitty. Trust me. But after reading so many titles where the seme just flat out rapes the uke 'cause they couldn't control themselves and it ends up being a trauma or some sort of plot device for them to get together I much prefer something like this. He was doing it to protect Kaede--even if people don't want to see it that way. And since it was tradition and it's to help prevent the receiver from getting hurt during their first time he had little choice in the matter. I mean, Ren is so much larger than Kaede and he could've easily not given him the drink and just went at it that way lol causing trauma and immense pain. I think that now that Ren's secret is out Kaede will become a little more understanding or at least knowledgeable on his attitude and why things had to be this way.

You are still quoting a modern law. Yes I know about spouse rape. Let’s imagine it like this: you agree to be sent to an Amazon tribe to be a bride. Once you are there, they say there’s this tradition that we do to protect you and you need to follow it - no electronic device. Your phone is to be destroyed. Would you say, oh no that’s thief let me out of here I’m gonna call police on you all? Hell no. Once you have agreed to do it you sort of agreed to the unexpectation. You don’t get sent to a foreign land to have it the same way back home. This is an issue in anthropological studies when people come into contact with indigenous tribes and judge their traditions based on modern morals and laws. What we know to be right is not universal.
What I’m just saying is, normally I don’t agree to romanticising rape but this case is different. One can even see it from how Kaede responds to it. He’s clearly pissed off by Ren’s attitude, but he fully accepts that Kataika is essential and he has learnt to fully embrace it.

there is so many side to a story we only saw kaede and now we are seeing rens somewhat and it the next chapter we will see more. i was mostly annoyed that they assumed he knew their tradition but he never even left his village before and they didnt try talking to get ride of misunderstandings. and the family was just like "i hope you guys get along" its a culture shock to kaede it would be for anyone, that why alot of people think ren raped kaede in someway but he did calm down when he heard it was part of their tradition. we just have to see more the understand what is truly is happening but what his cousin did want 100% rape because he though it was ren coming back to him
who was doing all that shit to Kaede? lol
Also, now that it's out in the air as to why he's been having to leave Kaede behind after kataika I bet you guys feel real stupid lol he was doing it for Kaede's safety 'cause he knew that he could really hurt him if he happened to lose it. Yeah, it sucks being blue balled like that but I much prefer unwilling neglect over Ren raping and hurting Kaede unintentionally.
