I don’t think so that Aoi is alive. And if they couldn’t see aoi’s corpse in the sea of something then maybe Aoi got back to the mundane world thats why mononokean said “They watch a cat die” in the mundane world. Although he said that it was Aoi who said it, I doubt it, cause Aoi is represented as the cat. Now heres a question: whose the employee during Aoi’s time?
