Hugo had a twin brother named Hugh who was the rightful heir to the Taran family. Hugo (Lucia's husband) was sent away from the family as a child and only came back after he was older. The Taran bloodline can only be passed down incestuously or by a super virgin. So Hugh ended up getting his cousin pregnant, who was Damien's mother. Damien's parents both died and so did his grandparents leaving only Hugo and Damien. Because Hugo loved Hugh, he swears he will run the Taran household until the rightful heir, Damien, is old enough to run it himself. Since Damien is Hugo's nephew, he sends him to the boarding school believing that it is a better place for a child rather then with him.

Well, the ML so far is actually named Hugh but goes on the alias of Hugo (his brother) I believe as in memory or something. That's why in the novel, ML reacts when Lucia first called him Hugh. (She forgot his name so she thought it was Hugh- which in the entire truth it is)
Exactly, his birth name is Hugh then he took his brother's name when he died then inherited the dukedom

Damien is a really cute kid. He sees the duke as his idol and wants to become cool like him haha. At first he sees Lucia as a threat that might hate his presence, since he would be considered to be an illegitimate child that would take over the family. (Which of course be a threat to her kids) he’s first a quiet kid not understanding warmth from a parent, but then he turns into a cute overprotective child that will be close to Lucia and want to protect her. A certain situation arise and he realized that he was powerless unlike his father. He takes it up to himself to study harder than before to gain his own strength to support his family.

Omg he is absolutely a sweetheart.....unlike his fatherHe is very quiet and shy but once you get to know him he is very sweet.At first he thought lucia might hate him since he’s not her child but he soon realised that she is very kind so he becomes close to her and they have a good mother and son relationship also spoiler Damein is not hugo’s biological child he’s Hugo’s twin brother’s son so that makes Damein hugo’s nephew however after his brother died hugo decided to adopt Damein.....though Damein doesn’t know.
