It helps to think of the names as a single word. Not xie + lian. But xielian. Learning the correct pronunciation can help too.
Also u really don't need to remember all the names. Excluding the main character (xie lian) and the love interest (hua cheng/san lang). The only other names you MUST remember for the MAIN story to make sense are feng xin, mu qing and jun wu. That's it. There's a bunch of arcs about the other side characters but they're pretty much uninvolved in the main story.

They included a guide with illustrations. Search the word "character" in it
omg if you dont read the novel you ll be missing out on so much. please give it a try, if you read the tranlations there are characters sheets with pictures and you can very easily remember who is who. this manhua is extremely beautiful but the novel i much more complete; the other people pretty much said everything please give it a try and you wont regret it :)
It's OK, most of the main characters have English names or titles, like Crown Prince, Wind Master, General Pei, Crimson Rain, Black Water etc., you will be able to remember, also, at most of the scenes there are only a few people present, it won't be too difficult. And it's so worth to read the novel!

Uuuuuwh >:T
I wish I could read the novel but I would just end up more confused. I just can't remember Chinese names. Korean and Chinese names.... The last time I read a Chinese novel it took me half of it until I could finally remember only the main characters name. I would never know who's talking and such, it's do annoying but I can't help it!
Curse you, brain! ヽ(`Д´)ノ
