I'll probably get some backlash for saying this. But, seriously, I feel like most of the readers here are sooo quick to jump ship! An update shows Kahol cursed Ilya's family and BAM! EVERYONE wants Kahol's head and instantly ships River with Heil! Now, don't get me wrong! It turns out Heil is not near as half bad as it was shown him to be. This is great! I love when a character is portrayed as a villain but isn't really one. This will create for rooms for further plot developments...
Now in regards to everyone JUMPING ship....I don't know why I find this "hilarious" yet I'm not even laughing. First of all, did anyone forget the shit Kahol went through with Kaveri in the past? Being tortured and dying for falling in love with someone who "belonged" to the Emperor. Of course, when he's made a god (the god of PAIN), he would curse the PERSON who caused the pain in the first place. It's really easy to sink into darknest when blinded by grudge caused by deep pain and heartaches. He lost everything he had, and had to suffer while knowing his love was being tortured as well.
Now, I'm not sure how "easy" it is for him to reunite with Kaveri. Not to mention by now, we'd be reading an entirely different story. But, then again maybe it wasn't meant to be. They lived one life and it was enough because it caused too much pain. Going back there I don't think would be wise. Sometimes, you have to keep the door close despite the bits of happiness you experience.
Moreover, we still don't know the full story and Kahol's side of the story. I don't think he's been cold to River because he's an asshole. Sometimes, it's hard to warm up and get cozy to the very thing (person) that reminds you terrible pain you've endured. I think deep down Kahol cares for River and just can't properly show it because of pride but also because of what happened between him and Ilya. Remember when he was thinking to himself that River's feelings would not remain the same if he knew what he did to his ancesters (hence, the curse....probably). I'm sure the reason why he's still in the state he is (god of pain) is also regrets from the past. Not just with what happens with Kaveri, but also Ilya. I'm 110% sure there WILL be an opportunity for Kahol to make it up to River and prove you all wrong.
Anyways, these are some of my theories. Now, you're welcome to go at me. Either way, I know some of my theories will be proven true in one way or another, before we get to see the happy ending meant for Kahol and River. I guarantee y'all be jumping ship again! Hopefully no one sinks in the presumptuous ideas of Kahol's character. *drops mic*
