isn't his turn to drink sympathetic then if its as of a direct result of thinking shes dead and his own guilt over failing her? humans coping with grief and pain dont always act the most rational, or for the best interest of others. the instinct for self preservation means people will always naturally be more inclined towards their own self interests. its refreshing when MLs are given weaknesses that are actually recognized as such in the plot, characters point it out without joking, and it is met with serious criticism along with consequences, they make decisions while acting in bad faith. but unlike with so many other ML's, emiel ..eventually comes to realize himself after a flash of self realization the error in his attitude without someone needing to MAKE him see it, taking personal accountability into his own hands.

Not surprised because the moments with her and the other guards are not so intimate like with emiel.
Also, I can't ship her with brother's friends because they also lack that 'closeness' (?)

She ends up with emeil after A LOT and I mean A LOT of shitty drama. A lot of people dont like who emeil becomes in the novel, because after he thinks she is dead (this happens when she is older) he starts to drink and becomes violent. But not only that...before all of that, he turns her down , doesnt tell her why...runs off to get the marquiss title and then comes back to find her "dead". I guess what I'm saying is if you dont like them together...time for you to jump ship (￣∇￣")
