I think he meant like make a deal and even if they cancel the engagement it would ruin her family socially people would constantly wonder why they ended the engagement and socially ruining someone in the noble society is devastating

why the emperor? she could've married someone that is actually nice/respectful or even married for love but she basically gave up.

if she is scared of all that, doesn't love him & loathes him, doesn't want to be empress than WHY MARRY HIM?! you don't need to be queen to live a peaceful & stable life. she could go find her own true love & live a great life....
