That's why I say it is too idealistic, I don't think it's wrong. It's quite cute. It is a romantic fantasy, but it is so overdone in yaoi that after a while it just feels that they just want to ignore the sexual consequences of being attracted to a same-sex partner, but still want to show smutt because that's hot.
It's just a detail that is rarely highlighted in yaois, so I was taken a back when Shii said it so matter-of-factly.

The fact that Tamaki didn’t seem to keen on sexual things because of how his mother brought him up might be addressed at some point. An obstacle considering how the extra was literally Shii jacking off on his phone. I doubt we’ll ever get proper asexual representation in a yaoi manga of all things but one can hope. :(

Yaoi is smutt, I doubt asexuals will come up as main characters in any yaoi. I do know that in "All About Lust" there is a side character that is asexual though, but that's the only one I have found in all these years. Look up in shounen ai mangas, they are softer and sometimes have 0 sex, so maybe there are mangas with more asexuals characters.

No, I think it can happen. And yeah, I read all about lust! U: anyway, I haven’t read a yaoi manga that deals with the topic but I have read a story (well, more like fanfic but damn was it well written) about a promiscuous man who had fallen for an asexual man. It was written in promisicuous’ man’s point of view. There was sex in it but not between the main pairing. Lots of pining, and moving forward together as a couple.

Please note that it’s his own opinion. Shii has been sexually active from a young age (he was only 10 when he started jerking off to Tamaki). So for him, a person’s sexuality/gender is an inseparable part of their identity.
For some folks it can be different. For me personally, when I’m attracted to one person I hardly ever thought about their gender (maybe only if I’m really in love and need to know if they can be attracted to me). I’m not crazy about sex either, so I belong to the group that can confidently say “I like you regardless of your gender”.
I do agree with your point about such statement being overused in yaoi, though. Sometimes I just want a coming of age story where the character comes to term with their sexual orientation. It can be very eye opening and liberating for them.

Yeah, it is indeed just an opinion of the character. I guess it caught my attention because I am bisexual, and so I have explored the unique sexual and physical appeals of both sexes, and how different they are. I wouldn't fall in love with a woman the same way I would with a man, and the sexual attraction is even more different. That's why Shii's opinion, specially the "It's because he(tamaki)'s a MAN. It' s incredibly important" hit home close.
But it's just an OPINION. I do not mean to sound absolutist with the observation. Thank you for your input c:

That caught me too. Tamaki is a different category for Shii, he's on the top of the hierarchy (Tamaki, guys, girls). Shii has accepted that the only one for him is Tamaki who happens to be a guy. And to find a release he has come to terms that it's possible for him to do guys when he slept with Takumi.
Blond dude(Shii) brought up something that I really like.
In many yaois I've seen the "it doesn't matter if you're a girl or a boy, I love you!", and sometimes it felt wrong? Or more like too idealistic. Sexuality is not only love, it is also physical stuff, and getting rid off that aspect of sexuality is stretching things a little. There are times that you love somebody, but if there's no sexual attraction, things usually don't evolve towards a romantic relationship. Physical attraction is really important for the common relationship.
It's just that many times in yaoi the characters either ignore the sex of their partner somehow or say "I don't like guys (I'm not homo/bi), I just like you!", and it feels like denial of basic sexuality in order to sound more romantic? Like Shii said: tamaki is his own special category, and tamaki is also a guy, so Shii accepts he is attracted to guys.
Sorry for the rant, I just find it interesting that Shii pointed it out in such a real way. Love that dude <3
