I mean my point is completely valid considering the author using a lot of imagery and symbolism during that scene and of Naruse literally running out of the darkness and it all being metaphoric for self acceptance and everything. But like I said, I am speaking from my own experience in a conservative setting. An entire crowd of people doesn’t simultaneously turn around and stare at you. But you can feel people’s eyes on you and some people whispering sometimes so it FEELS like how the author illustrated it.
yeah i understand this point after rereading the chapter a second time! the people looking and talking shit to naruse in the street shouldnt be taken literally but instead metaphorically like yeah it comes with him being scared to be out so it's understandable that he's conscious to everyone around him. it's like multiple pricks in ur skin :/

the shit naruse went through really hits hard when ur an irl gay huh
[edit for my second comment on the thread] i think we should also talk about his anxiety of being seen as it's shown in the previous chapter. i think it could be described as walking alone scared as shit that everyone is talking about u and even if ur not looking u can Feel that ur being stared at. i think the author made a really good imagery on how it feels in this chapter.
