That's what I think. I think it might be lost in translation and he originally said "he was supported by both families but the evidence was provided by the latter" and when it was translated, the meaning changed a bit... It sometimes happens when I read Japanese manga and notice some slight errors in translation to english....But then again, this might be correctly translated and I'm just looking for a reason to exonerate her family.

Also, even the green hair girl's family seemed nice so it'd be shame if they're secretly evil or something...
