right, like why did the author even bother including that? in real life, itd be more understandable that hed be too tired to get a chance to text her how he was doing. but in a freaking fictional story, he could have easily messaged her lol. not to mention he didnt even really recelebrate her birthday with her, they just ate the cake and once again he tried to smooth it over with sex, try talking things out for once. idk, if we didnt seen his thoughts once in a while, from an outside perspective it looks like hes treating her as just a friend with benefits

Dude just imagine ur girl running of on date night because of an "emergency" and not texting you about the situation. Like she has seen him get hurt before and knows the dangers of the job. first, i know as a firefighter emergencies are serious so you must move quickly but when she wanted to know what was going on he said it was a emergency and left sort of coldy. secondly, just to make her take the overseas job he was unecessarily cruel, and then yes, she made the decision to not take the overseas job on her own, but he did end up trying to stop her in the end anyways which ultimately prioritized his own feelings over hers. but when it comes to his job, she always has to hold back and he doesnt take her concerns seriously. thirdly, going to that mixer and planning to lie about it was dumb and then begging her to go as if he cared more about pleasing his friends than feeling sorry for going to a mixer, was assholish. and then to top it off he said nothing about having a gf and let the girls think he was available, why, again to please his friends. idk man, im not seeing much truth in him saying he will make her happier than anything else
