I never think that its easy to change a "deeply rooted sexist society". Neither do i think that what Sanghee is doing is also realistic. I dont want a mary sue, but a story should progress when it needs to progress. The premise of a sexist society should be a motivator for main character to become better, not be used as a constant excuse for 167 chapters to why she is uselessly weak and why the plot is basically just bland aegyo vomit. I can understand that being cute is needed to survive her initial years, but that should be just a stepping stone. Its appalling how for all these chapters, the only thing she can do is to be an appealling pet and without any scheming for the future. and I guess its funny that you only think of physical strength, when I mention her being strong. By strong, meaning she uses skills and allies to retaliate. A good example is Generation's queen ling. A battle of the wits and alliances.
Also, Sanghee was already clingy to Jinsu the moment Freesia came into the picture. Im like "that woman could be an ally!" But nope, Sanghee didnt even bother getting close to her, getting worried that she'd have to share Jinsu with her. And I'll say it again, Freesia being trapped in the empire as a prisoner is yet ANOTHER excuse to make Sanghee isolated, and lack allies. Its like everytime a good potential plot comes up, the story gets triggered that Sanghee will be able to retaliate to the men using that ability and thus the potential plot gets crushed and discarded and her ability gets forgotten. She could have used her Korean or her academic abilities (math and science in the kingdom is shit as everyone relied on magic. wouldnt it be cool if she uses that to her advantage?) and slowly plan for a secret movement. But nop, she live the high life getting pampered like a dog while she mopes around about how she's so oppressed and can't do anything to help the women. If u say, "its just a sexist world, its hard to change", well I've got news for you, its the author's job to help the protagonist through her hard times and write in plot devices and allies and skill arcs that makes her stronger (again, it doesnt need to be physical strength). Avatar Aang started out as a kid who only know air bending, and the kid who indirectly caused his entire tribe to die when he left. Hes a fucking run away in the entire land, and he still found his journey, his allies and his teachers. And he doesnt go aegyo the fucking Fire lord until the fire lord likes him LMAO. How unrealistic is that.
You can't pretend like u are too oppressed to change anything, while literally just standing in one spot. Just re-read all the action parts and u will see that she just stand around and hardly even utter a word like a background decoration. Imagine if game of thrones was like this plot and all the time Daenerys just use aegyo and expect her brother and husband to give her independence and do everything for her lmao. then all the seasons would be absolute shit. She was given three dragon eggs, which over the course of the story, she became mature and wise and uses all the skills, allies and assets etc. Imagine if Harry Potter never got into Hogwarts and he used aegyo to survive his uncle and aunt, and aegyo to defeat Voldemort. Lmao. There's a huge difference between being a mary-sue, and being a decent interesting MC that can do things independently. A mary sue would be Adelaide from La Dolce Vita Adelaide.
I wouldnt even trust sanghee to toast a piece of bread, for fear that she will collapse from the oppression. This entire story is just sexism but with extra steps.
she's been kidnapped so many times how has she not... you know, actually try to keep herself safe? like going to another country when she knows that there are people after her? geez
