I feel like the bribe was probably turned down, though. Iris had already impressed the ambassador, and the discussion topic is likely to make up for the energy stone bribe that they didn't get.
I also agree it was unnecessary and can actually do harm to Iris if the empress will hear that the Duke bribed the judges for her to win. Because that would mean they have a good relationship and Iris would be force to do something again to prove that her loyalty to the empress.
