It's not a toxic message. I'm a trans person and I could feel the pain of the MC through and through. Every fucking trans person KNOWS that they can never be biologically the sex they want to be and that's accepted. Because we can't change that. That's just how it is. We can only be like them, but never them. I thought this was an absolute masterpiece because it doesn't end with satisfaction in the reader's mind. It shows that not every trans person can just live freely and do what they want. There is always a fear of not being accepted or being distanced from people you love because they can't accept you as you are. This is not a toxic message, it's the reality.
