She knows that, but she can't forget twenty hears of bullying that apparently got worse than this with age.
I don't think she'll keep acting this way for much time anyway, since she doesn't enjoy see them hit or crying.
I think that is the point of the story. For her to understand them she has to see them suffering, because in her memory they are only assholes. You don't change what you think about a person you know over 20 years in a few days.
I feel like she could stop being petty to the children, she’s got her adult mind can’t she just, idk, think about how the kids just lost their sister and that they’re KIDS
