Probably. Maybe the author wants to point the issue in the society where people have to force themselves to behave the same in order to stay together. Like how we have to show a certain face to people so that we avoid conflicts. I think lying is not as bad as we used to think at some degree I think we need to lie & we need to be lied maybe.. Well it depends.
Is the author trying to do a parallel of how there is a small, persecuted minority who have been living in fear of discovery because they worry society will fear and reject them because they are different?
So in a way he brought the Dares and Liars out of the closet?
