Culture

I'm curious how well this will portray American culture. I've read a few mangas/manhua/manhwa's that are set in the US and the characters always act SO ASIAN. There's marked differences between the two cultures that just don't translate.

Is it bad to express different cultures in America?

No of course not and if the characters themselves were Asian I wouldn't think anything of it but they're supposed to be caucasian so its weird.

would u mind giving me some examples of those asian behaviours? I don't usually see the differences so it'd be nice to know lol

Sry it took me so long to respond I've been busy, also I've tried to organize my thoughts but this still might turn into a rambling mess lol so sry in advance.

Ppl referring to each other by last name, only close friends and/or family using first names. Even at work we refer to each other by first name. Even most bosses go by their first name.

Calling each other by your familial relationship. Exceptions like mom, dad, grandma and grandpa exist but most siblings refer to each other by first name as well as cousins, aunts, uncles etc...maybe a nick name which is usually a shortened version of their whole name.

Honorifics (San, kun, Sama, Oppa, Hyung, Sunbae, Hoobae etc...) the closest you get is Mr. Mrs. Ms but these are not tacked onto everyone's name and it doesn't denote their age in relation to you.

Talking about ppl sexual orientation, asking about marital status and hooking ppl up at work is a HUGE NO NO. Unless you want to get written up or fired. Sexual harrassment suits are a common thing here so we mostly don't talk about that stuff (at wrk)

Kissing as a form of greeting. Lol we do not greet each other with kisses. That's not a thing here P.D.A (public displays of affection) make ppl uncomfortable. Even most couples don't kiss in public, we hug or shake hands.

Taking on family members debts. If my mother/father dies and has a ton of debt I'm not responsible for that and don't have to pay it back. Exceptions would be if I inherit his/her business and it was in debt, I'd owe that money. Or if he/she left me their house and it had liens/loans then I'd owe that money.

Embarrassment, this is harder to explain bcuz different things embarrass different ppl. However there appear to be some marked differences between the two cultures. A growing stomach isn't embarrassing it just means your hungry. Hickey's (kiss marks) also not embarrassing we wouldn't feel the need to hide them. It just means you got some action last night (yay you!)

Saying no during sex. Unless you want that person to stop, don't say no. If they continue, they're raping you. No means no there is NO gray area.

Having sex with an unconscious person, that's rape. Period.

I can think of more things but this is already pretty long so I'll stop here, I hope this helped. If you'd like more examples I can elaborate more. Thanks for your time.

I don't think they act Asian. The way they act in most yaois is just dramatic and pretty unrealistic is all.

There’s only one I’ve read where I felt they captured young Americans adults fairly well in terms of culture
