i agree he is still consider young ish?? and his father is a BAD role model therefore no matter how pure his intentions might be he would always pick up some or every bad trait/habit
They said he was 12. A 12 year old can either be super mature or well, not at all. And I doubt he has been socialized well. He might not even had the chance to learn about the curse if his father kept it from him. Also as a prince he would be spoiled regardless and had every kid his age encouraged to play with him by the parents. This might be the first time another kid said no/stay away to him. If he were older I'd be more judgmental, but at this stage this is clearly all on his environment.
So he will hopefully change with enough time interacting with a wider range of people.
