Seconding this. It bothers the crap out of me when I can tell the characters aren't in a Western country, but they still have Western names. It's hard to complain because at least the comic is being translated, but it still bugs me the whole time I'm reading.

I third this. Worst is when you're halfway into a story and immersed in a character but then bam nam joon becomes henry and then you don't really care for this Henry dude.
I mean... do the translators do this to avoid copyright or do they just not like foreign names?

I absolutely hate that shit, too. Drives me crazy. Which is why I am finding it difficult to continue reading Lookism on Webtoons because of that bullshit name change. I love the comic when I ised to read it on mangago but then halfway through the comic gets this ridiculous name change. Does everything really need to be westernised? Just leave the damn names as they are!

It happens when a manga gets officially picked up by an English publisher. This same thing happened to Fools. Sucks (I agree with ya - it gives me major cringe) but yea I don’t think it’s the hobbyist translators / uploaders westernizing the names like this

But WHY are the English Publishers westernising the artist's work? Do they think their readers would not like the the names as they are? They never really do this with Japanese mangas, so why do it to Korean Manwhas?

Yeah... like how difficult it is for them to consider any name as relatable to the audience...its weird when the setting is very much in korea or china or something but the names are not.
Don't they know how cringey david oppa sounds?

I thought I was the only one who never liked westernized names. Manga takes to to Asia. In all it’s glory. In fiction I mean. Westernized names just drag you back, hard
