Nadan has the "good guy' core and doesn't like scheming and selfishness. Suu is willing to scheme (even to the point of poisoning) in order to obtain his goals. Nadan would rather hold on to his moral core and stay a slave than do dirty things and be free. He's not ruthless enough to conquer his situation.

So, Suu needed Nadan in the start (or he'd have starved, probably), then they relied on each other, then Suu decided to make plans and do the dirty work to get them out of the country. The rift is because being a naive/good guy doesn't work in the palace (or any cutthroat environment), and Suu was so eaget to keep him close he brought him into this situation. That was Suu's mistake.

How was it a mistake Suu knows what it takes and knows what needs to be done. Also I rather Suu sell himself than have someone take him by force Suu knows what is up and that isn't his fault. He adapted to his environment without changing how he felt about Nadan. But Nadan couldn't cut because he is a good guy to be honest I wish Suu would just get him free from the prison and just leave him alone to continue to be a slave. No point in wasting energy where it's not needed.

It was a mistake to put Nadan in an environment where he cannot, like Suu, behave in a way to survive. He simply is too trusting and too altruistic. Suu may know what needs to be done. Nadan never will. And because he brought him into the imperial environment, the evil consort was able to use him as a pawn (and land him into torture and prison) in order to use Suu. Suu doesn't always get it right. He's just lucky now to have the Crown Prince and a dragon's favor.

Also, I have no problems with Suu selling what he has of value to gain a better life in future for him and whomever he cares for. If I were poor and a slave and all I had of value was my pretty butt, I'd sell to the highest bidder, too. BUT...he tricked the buyer and later on it almost cost him his life. Notice that if the dragon hadn't saved him, the guy who paid for him (and then Suu tricked him and put another guy in his bed) would have continued to beat and then rape him and maybe kill him.
And notice that the boy who was Suu's substitute was beaten to death. People around Suu do pay the price for his cleverness. Just like Nadan.

As a whole we can agree to disagree Suu didn't put him in danger. Suu for the most part kept him out of danger. He was at the hunt by our coincidence or ma, be not they never got the truth of that situation. Just say you want to blame Suu for everything to make Nadan look like a good guy. To be honest he is coward if he didn't really want Suu to sell himself he could have done more. Which he hasn't Nadan can still be a simple person but a free person. But I guarantee that Nadan won't get free because he put forth the effort to. Smh I feel like you don't understand just how deep Suu is you just want to write him off as bad and dangerous. Because he doesn't fit your idea of a good guy.

no, it's not either or....Suu protected him in instances (ex: trying to dismantle the proper grave when it was dangerous to Nadan to leave it). But he still put him in the ultimate danger by bringing him into the imperial area where he's a lamb for the slaughter. Nadan would not be shattered and in prison if he had not been brought there. And Nadan is not clever like Suu. You expect him to be what he is not. He is not sly. He is not deceptive. He is not as intelligent and able to manipulate. Suu has many skills that make him able to deal with vicious royals. Nadan has NONE Of that, and that's not his fault. Most of us could not survive in that environment. And historically, people who want to keep their morality in the face of corrupt politics/courts end up shattered and dead. You have to be immoral to survive that type of place. Smarter, more schemey, more informed, more eloquent.
Nadan is a good guy. And he's not Suu and doesn't have Suu's abilities, so to judge him by that standard is wrong.
I don't blame Suu for what he has done or is doing to get free (and in his ideal bring Nadan to freedom). But the fact is, he bought his freedom and he didn't buy Nadans. Instead, he embroiled Nadan in that hellhole.

Suu is dangerous to Nadan because he has ambitions that Nadan does not and drags him along into peril. He's not evil (he's just trying to survive best he can). But in making the decision to "win"....he has hurt people (the boy who replaced him, those in the court he helped poison). If his nail fell off just by touching the poison, what do you think it did to the person who drank the poison. He did that for money. If you find out someone in your gov't for personal gain poisons people, would you call them utterly good? I'd call them playing the game, pragmatic, etc, but not necessarily good. And yet I'm on Suu's side. I want him to win, because he's suffered a lot and he's tried to be a good friend. But let's not make him out to have a halo.
I felt like Nadan just want to be a slave and live a quiet life with Suu but that isn't what Suu wants. Like everytime Suu tries to do something to get money to save them Nadan gets upset. Like I've stated previously I have yet to see Nadan say " here is what I can do to save us". I understand what Suu is saying especially since I know sex work first hand. So it's not about love and heart because your going to love who you and that will never change. I feel like Nadan is/was holding Suu back and Suu is allowing because of his feelings or love and maybe a little regret. Also Suu knows what needs to be done in order to survive!
And finally Suu and Jin get it on although we don't get to see it I'm sure he will be gentle!
