I am also not necessarily opposed to the joel x chase thing as long as chase is of age when they get intimate . However, form the beginning it really got to me the fact that Joel paid much more attention to chase than jesse bc it seemed like chase was reliable and brought all of them together in a certain way. That 'certain way' was also very much like someone suiting a "mother"-like role, so honestly, if it had been that the boys were college students and chase was a girl, I bet Joel would have been less in denial about how the situation was playing out and that he himself was getting attached to this new reliable person giving so much for him. In the end, chase did weasel his way into Joel's heart, but there was no healthy foundation laid out because of their ages, ignorance, and the fact that Joel's issues as a father had never been properly addressed until Jesse threw it all at his face. Now there are consequences obviously and that DAMN JOEL better not lay a finger on chase until chase is a full-fledged adult by law I swear.
You are focusing on the age issue but that is just one of many. My main issue is that Jesse is obviously not in favor of his father dating Chase. He doesn't even like Chase. I am 100% sure he'd hate it to have Chase as a stepdad. That is weird in many ways. Joel is not even a decent father. I am glad the author pointed out that dating your son's friend is shitty. Even divorced parents should prioritzed their child's welfare when dating. Just to be clear, even without the age gap or gender issue, their relationship is still problematic.
Too true honestly. Joel is so shitty even now that he's trying to fix things he immediately goes to justify his attachement to Chase. I'd be surprised if his relationship with Jesse ever gets truely repaired. Is it sas I lost hope in the dad when after facing his denial he immediately starts thinking about going after Chase??? Like, fix your stance with your son first even if you admit to feeling something for Chase. Would your son be ever capable of getting past the idea of chase dating his father??? ( ●￣(ｴ)￣●)

looking back joel is a clueless parent obviously he didn't get any warnings about jesse coming into his life suddenly. he had no experience or taken any parental lessons. plus there's no wife (dishwasher jk). please dont aim any of the blame to one person. each person of the story contributes themselves in the drama.
chase well his personality is outgoing and daring that's what i love about him.
for jesse i guess his jealousy grew that the fact his own dad pays attention to chase more than him, correct me if im wrong again.
joel x chase ship is gonna be a thing i suppose but dont oppose of it, in the end its consent and 'love' and like i said we know the rules of age gap dating, both are old enough to date.
