Probably because their release calendar is already full? They have just announced another title I follow (Shangri la no Tori) and that one is scheduled for November (if my memory is correct). Sometimes paperwork takes time, too.

I just think they’re drawing it out to get more money. There’s absolutely no reason to I have a “Full” release schedule. If they know their getting the license already it shouldn’t take much time to translate then at least have it up digital before print release. And yes u know Shangri la. They’re just all about profits because they know hardly any other company’s have access so they tale advantage since thy have the market cornered rn

Sorry, I don’t get it. Why do you think delaying the release is gonna make more money for the publisher? Isn’t it the other way around, to release it asap when it’s still popular?
Publication, like every other job, takes time and personnel to do it. There are paperwork to take care of (and every Japanese publisher has different requirements). There are translation, editing, proofreading, typesetting. A physical test print need to be sent to Japan to be approved before they can print the actual books. After that there’s distribution to retailers.
And of course they are about to get profit, otherwise why would they do it? This is not fan’s scanlation for charity.

No it doesn’t sound harsh. But you just don’t get it. Publishing companies are setup for this. And licensing and the translating, typing proofreading typesetting doesn’t take that long especially when it IS professionals that are doing it not a damn fan scanlation. The delay rakes in more money of a years worth of preorders so they are getting money with the faith of the customer. Guess you’re completely unaware of how June manga ripped off customers of over 500,000 worth when they never come through with peoples preorders and no one was refunded. The publishing companies do this to not accrue any costs themselves. A year wait for a publication being preordered that soon is over the top. I can understand how they would start the preorder at most 6 months before but not a year. Oh and on the Japanese publishing requirements. This is not an anime it’s a translation and production professionals get these things done quickly it doesn’t take years to do that kind of business work....

I’m aware of the scandal with June. Probably because I usually buy from retailers not directly from publishers so I don’t pay attention to when they open the preorder.
In my country the major manga publishers churn out new books weekly and I personally know some people involving in the process of getting license and publishing manga. What I have told you is 100% true. It doesn’t take years, of course, but still takes months with back and forth communication.

someone asked them about it and here’s their reply.
„The process start to finish includes licensing (all the legal contracts), translation time 4 weeks, lettering of 8 weeks, editing time, a month in prepress/bluelines, a month at printer, then to distributor to ship to retailers (2 months). That’s 7 months without even figuring the time in licensing or editing. We also don’t work on just one book. Everything has to fit into a larger production schedule as well as a larger release schedule. Normally I announce 6 months or so in advance. This time I chose to announce it early.”

and i’m greatful they did that bc imo it’s easier to wait a year knowing what you’ll eventually get it instead of spending another half a year hoping that someone will translate it
