I feel like bisexuals need their own genre. Bisexuality doesn't really fit into the yaoi or yuri genres very well and as you pointed out most ignore that bisexuals even exist. Maybe one day that genre will be created.

Both explain that there is a relationship between two boy/girls not the sexuality of them. You can argue about the overuse of the word "gay" (by mostly fans/readers) when it comes to the yaoi genre but remember the word gay can be used as an umbrella term
