Think about the possibilities of if she does marry him. She’s like her her own double agent she has access to things that may or may not ruin the man (and back in that time status, and honor was how you received respect and benefits).
i’m just saying instead of being disappointed in her, be disappointed that there are people like that (people who you need to hunt and kill because of their wrong-doings)
Think about it, if she become spy, yes she could get information about her enemies but at the same time she need to do all the dirty works to earn their trust, just like when Police become a spy in the mafia organization. You are right, at that time honor was everything, she is a marquess but nobody respect her because her house is poor. That's why I'm saying she need to do business or industry to earn money to reclaim her house honor, but instead she just give away all her invention as thank you gifts. Instead of becoming double agent, why don't she become the mastermind, she has talents and connection, she basically an Einstein, but she blinded with her revenge, she should look into bigger picture, if she become powerful, she doesn't need to wear sheep clothing to trick her prey.

I know Iris want to take revenge, but is it necessary to sacrifices herself by marrying that jerk again, caught him cheated and divorce him later? She call that revenge? What did she gain from that? In that era man having an affair is not even a deadly sin unlike women. And with her knowledge, she isn't need to become a spy herself, is a waste of her talents. Instead of just giving gifts to others, she could open a business with her new invention, money is the greatest power no matter what era are you live in.
