My mom was super open about sex but it embarrassed the fck out of me. She legit gave me my first vibrator. Even if your fam is super open about sex and sexuality, the culture you grow up in effects how you see sex And how comfortable you are talking about it with your parent(s). So even though my mom was crazy open I was something of a prude when it came to talking about sex with her. I still am. I’ve had to force myself to be open when talking about sex with my own kid. She wasn’t interested in knowing about sex at all until she was 8 then she started asking questions, and omfg did she ask questions. I had to force my face into a mask of “everything is normal”. My sisters kids are hilarious. Our kids are homeschooled (secular homeschool, just FYI) so we have sex Ed for them and afterwards my niece would constantly scream sing a song she made up called prepubescent masturbation. But my one niece is nuts. When she came out as gay I bought her a T-shirt that said “I’m the rainbow sheep of the family”, bc even if she wasn’t gay she’d still be the rainbow sheep. When she was 7 she decided she was a boy and insisted on everything from short hair to boys underwear. Then about a year later she decided she was a girl again. Sometimes I think we’ve been to open when I get questions from them like, have you ever had anal sex and asking me to take a kink test and wanting to know my score. But they’re awesome. One of their friends was raised in a house with a mom who was super uptight about sex. She was the one we’d find out was showing our kids porn. My sisters kids and my kid came to us to tell us she’d shown them porn and were very worried about her. That’s when I realized we’d done a great job. A week ago my daughter asked me if she could tell me if she wanted to have sex and I was like if course. In my head I was like I have done such a great job.

You spend 90% thinking you suck and 10% thinking you aced it. I just found the manga amusing bc it was like the uke had only soaked up his households view on sex and was impervious to his cultures view. Like you literally have to raise a kid in the middle of nowhere with no access to the outside world to not have them effected by culture. (And why restrictive religions try and keep their kids away from the world, the ppl who give homeschooling a bad name.)
