If she forgives Cabel too fast he will not understand how much in the wrong he is.
In her memories her brothers are rude people who mistreated her for most of her life, eventually becoming worse than now because once their parents are gone there's no one that can stop them from abusing their sister. Wether be true or not, that they abused her so much, HER reality is one where she's been hurt a lot by them: in her mind, they're bad people.

Why should she be respectful toward someone who hurt her? It's not a matter of being petty, mean or childish, all her brothers do is being unsensitive or picking a fight whenever they get a chance. What should she do, stay quiet and leave them be just because she's tecnically an adult?

People in real life have such a hard time grasping this concept of respecting yourself, that it's really concerning. I honestly think it stems from a mentality, or some level of belief that we should be treated that way. Also a misunderstanding that not showing respect to those who hurt us, or who are rude to us, is seen as being petty, immature, or manipulative behavior.
