So many people thought this was cute and sweet...I guess I can see why a little bit. Takatoshi is a complete sweetie, but personally I thought Yuu was just..blah. Hardly any emotion, kinda inconsiderate, at the end he says he's confused and that he might love Takatoshi? Really? Where's the sugary syrup in that?

that's the character i think you got yuu chan whose just walking through the motion then on the other hand you have a taka kun whose a bundle of emotion and you bring them together and watch them grow
but then again this is just my opinion

I think it might be due to his insecurity. From the way he (a) initially ignores Takatoshi's advances, (b) describes how his relationship with Youichi ended, and (c) reacts to Takatoshi's confession that the relationship seems one-sided, he's clearly not entirely comfortable with romantic relationships. And because of this discomfort, he's afraid to fully express himself.

It's a bit of conjecture on my point, but I think most of the relationships Yuu had were casual or flippant in one form or another. For instance, he states that he was dating Youichi when the man was married. I imagine that knowledge put a rift between them, and made it difficult to fully open up to each other. And the confusion at their break-up only furthers that conclusion; their communication was likely crap, and their relationship was connected mostly through sex.

Given this, I think Yuu is afraid of the idea of seriously falling in love. He appreciates Takatoshi's affections, but at the same time he's scared shitless of them. More specifically, it's not that Takatoshi's affections scare him-- it's how his love affects HIM. How it elicits such a big response within him. Yuu is confused because he knows he loves Takatoshi, but he's never loved someone in this manner. He doesn't know this type of serious love, and that's why he says that he's confused. He knows this emotion /is/ love, but... at the same time, why is it so damn different from his concept of love?

And Takatoshi recognizes this, which is why he no longer feels troubled by Yuu's "lack" of expressions. That's why he says he'll try harder-- to reassure Yuu and make this relationship work.

I mean, that's my interpretation, and why Yuu doesn't annoy me so much. And that's why I found Takatoshi's loyalty so endearing, because Yuu is the character that needs that.

But at the same time, I do think the manga failed to explain/explore many plot points. I think it tried to focus too much on the sweetness without actually explaining why these interactions occurred in the first place, which is why the story fell flat (to you and others).
