It’s just an unnecessary detail and tbh idk what this is supposed to accomplish? Like most authors put incest in to make it taboo but this is already a yaoi with dragons and reincarnations and all that shit so it was really just unnecessary to add incest since it doesn’t contribute to the story at all.
I actually think it was a transaction error. They say they are cousins once but the scene about them meeting after he was being bullied is longer. You don't usually meet a cousin that way so I think it might be an error
Also I have just gotten used to seeing cousins relationships in Japanese manga ( would still freak out of its American thought) due to the fact that it's legal for cousins to merry there. It's pretty common in manga too.
