What they need is to be informed about it and to teach them about the lgbtq community! not flat out smart off to them, it does nothing at all in helping them come to terms with it. He didn't say your no longer my son, or anything like that he's shocked like most anyone would be, so I think he deserves props for still being there cause most parents aren't after you tell them.
While yes I think he has made some really poor decisions on raising his child. I do feel bad for them both. Being told u have a child out of know we're is a really huge thing, especially since he didn't see him be born, take his first steps, Ect.. he does need to be a better father for sure. But at this point in time everyone is saying him doing every single thing is being a bad father. Like he has the right to love who he chooses! His son wants his dad to be happy with his relationship but he ain't happy about his dad and blondie, like what!? That's kind of hypocritical
