My opinion on Sumin & Seju love story (LONG ASS ESSAY) :
First love that ended because of a mistake (cheating) but both of them can't giving up entirely; because yeah, it is a mistake. Sumin stucked in her 'revenge' cycle till she lost touch with the real meaning of love. She thought she will never forgive Seju & keep looking for a new relationship. Unfortunately she can't find another person that she loves wholeheartedly like Seju. Sumin didn't fully moved on even when she met a good person (the lawyer one).
Meanwhile Seju kept seeking for forgiveness in her own way (stop drinking & being with Sumin no matter what) She never thought she deserves a second chance & she's grateful that Sumin came back to her (even when she already fucked few women). Seju end up settled down for less & less, as long as Sumin stays with her. Cause Seju think that she'll never love anyone else except Sumin, & she never ready to lose her.
For me they had great relationship, they truly love each other but of course there are bits of them are incompatible. Seju sometimes being too condescending towards Sumin. Sumin also being cruel & cold towards Seju after her mistake. Bitch, ignoring Seju during sex just to pick up a call? Man.. Lol
They had the understanding that Sumin never found in anyone else (before she met Sungji). For 10 years, Sumin supported Seju against her family. Seju always there for Sumin no matter how fcked up she was (drunk & wasted). Without words they still love & care about each other, always.
Sumin felt betrayed because of Seju's mistake but deep down she knew that she still love her. Within those 10 years, they actually already forgave each other but both of them never had a deep heart to heart conversation to say 'I love you'. Sumin was too ego to admit, Seju was too scared of rejection. So they wasted their chance to get back.
Until Sumin met Sungji (who is pure, bold & honest - like young Seju), she mend her heart back. Because Sungji didn't have any expectation on her, always look on the positive side of her & always gave a reply that she never thought of. That's why Sumin fell for her.
I guess Sumin & Seju story is amazing, the character background is well developed. You can't blame any of them. Seju can't be bright & sensitive as Sungji because she never had a mother. So she can't understand Sumin's lost. You can't blame Sumin because she was betrayed at the worst moment in her life (her parents' died). You can't blame both for them for going back to toxic cycle because they really had a great understanding & truly love each other. Just a bad, bad communication. They never admit that they still love each other until it's too late. They never declare anything on their relationship after got back to each other. Like Sumin said 'we can't start over. Because we're cowards who couldn't end things properly'.
I understand how hard it was to move on from your first love, especially when the person is great & the love is mutual. I also understand the feeling of betrayal that is painful & ugly. I also know that certain people deserve second chance. And I understand that staying in the new love is better than go back to your old love story. Because going back to old love is like reading the same book over & over again when you know the exact way it gonna ends.
Extra my own experience (I'm a lesbian btw) : I had a great first love, that I truly love wholeheartedly. I know that she loved me too but we're both scared of the future. So we just ignore our feelings & moved on with our life. I will never forget her, she always be my first love. After 5 years, I still can't fall in love with anyone. Then I met my gf. She has the mind & personality that I never see in anyone else. She's open, honest & bold, just like Sungji. I told her that I might not ready to love her entirely because I had my first love (I'm her first love btw) . Then she replied 'It's okay. Even if you love me 1%, I still love you 110%. Forget that bitch. I will wait till you move on'. That's how I fell in love with her. The understanding, love & sincerity.
But not long enough, she cheated on me. Lol. But take note that I'm living in religious country where homosexuality is a sin & illegal. She tried to have a 'normal relationship' with a guy. Because she thought that she need someone in order to move on from me. Lol. After 2 weeks of texting this guy, I found out her 'cheating' & I left her. But she begged to come back to me & she left that guy once she realize 'you can't use someone to move on from someone else'. That moment I learnt about second chance. I can't move on, I can't stop loving her even I felt betrayed. Because that betrayal has a reason, not that she really loved him.
Long story short, she cut ties with that guy, begged for my forgiveness & I learn to love her back. It took about a year of forgiveness & assurance for that betrayal feeling fade away. But the second chance & forgiveness that I gave, was worth it. We're already 4 years in stable relationship. Hihi.
Lesson learnt :
1. Never, ever cheat on your partner. No matter what's your sexuality. Please. If you're out of love, break up properly. No one deserves to be betrayed. It is the worst feeling.
2. Second chance sometimes worth it. Allow yourself to forgive & forget even though it hurts. Everyone deserves a second chance for their mistake.
3. Sometimes first love just doesn't work. You deserve someone that love & treat you right. You deserve the understanding & honesty. Communication is everything, if you can't be totally transparent with your partner, then they're not the right one. Don't settle for less.
4. Wait till you find the right one. Get to know them first. Not just fuck around & hoping that you met your soul mate. Lol
Soo.. That's my opinion & story. That's the reason why I think that WDTFS is a great story. I understand each character POV & I'm quite satisfied with the ending. Great job team gaji!! ε=ε=(ノ≧∇≦)ノ

Thanks for your detailed thoughts, it really helped bring all of the characters in perspective and helped me understand them all, Seju did cheat on Sumin but she was just drunk and didn't mean anything but Sumin couldn't get past that because she cheated on her at the worst possible time. They both still loved each and couldn't just end it properly, its a sad and beautiful story, thank you once again for giving your thoughts!!! It cleared up alot!!! And yaaaaay!!!
