i dont know if its bcs the author's (the one draw) choice of words, or scene choice from the novel, or something else, but Hari feels a bit.... cold(?) ungrateful(?), in this chapter.
i cant feel her sadness at all. despite all the sad situation, she makes jokes about not eating properly, she didnt show any sadness or concern about the family (even in her monologue), and she just didnt try hard enough. so i.... started to dislike her. i can totally see why people thinks she is ungrateful bcs even reading her inner monologue, i still cant feel her sadness.

She already went through it, though, so of course she would t feel as sad as she did initially.

well yeah but it still didnt justified her reactions. shouldnt she feels sad a little bit? after all theyre still her parents. they pick her up from the street to become a noble lady. she created some memories with them too in the last few years.

it's probably due to her being shocked that she couldn't change their fates, and I wouldn't want to justify her character in a wrong way, but I still think she's a really well-written character who has the mind of a 20 year old, treated like a child, and has gone through so many traumatic experiences. even she's questioning why she's not crying during the funeral scene, so she still retains empathy to a certain degree.
