In anime/manga logic, they hear with human ears and the animal ears are only there to convey emotion like their tails.

In anime/manga logic, they hear with human ears and the animal ears are only there to convey emotion like their tails.
Do they hear with all four ears at once? Or only the animal ones? Perhaps the human ones? Do all of the ears get some universal level of hearing based on the strongest or weakest? Why don’t they have human ears in their animal forms as well? Does the type of ear with the best hearing become the “dominant” one?
So many questions...
