I feel the fact that Caleb killed a little kid is being glossed over. and that would be fine, but they try to make it as the master cares? And he doesn't based on his actions so, idk I'm pretty disconnected from this plot cause no one makes sense.

That's perfectly fine, except they made this whole narrative about the master caring when his actions just don't reflect that. I feel the author wants to write heavy deep stuff and they're just not at that level.
