They are too powerful but one of their flaws is the inability to have children. The only way for them to get a male heir is through incest (Damien is a product of hugo's father with the half sister. of course hugo didn't know that before he kill himself). They can get a female child only if the bride grew up taking some kind of herb before marriage and another condition, she need to be a virgin when she have sex with Taran. Without these condition, they will never get children. hence why Hue fool around with many women before getting married to Lucia. He x have to worry about those women getting pregnant.

They don't really need to go through incest, they just need the take the herb before they have sex. Hugo didnt get anyone pregnant due to the fact that none of them didnt take that special herb, but the Taran bloodline doesnt exactly have to do incest in order to concieve children, like Hugo said, it was the tradition if Taran to keep the bloodline pure.

when they say prepare the girl like does she have to take the herb way before for a long time or just like a few days before sex then a few days right after sex?
I dont know if I remember it correctly but I think the girl needs to take the herb once they're a teenager. And once its time to have an heir, then they'll remove the herb from the body and have sex.

In short the girls need to eat the herb in their teens to stop menstruation. Once their body is "purified" so a couple of months, they need to drink the mixture and they more or less get pregnant easily. However, they need to eat the herbs as early as possible.
