I prefer it with the manly Paulina because it's the first manga where all of the girls aren't "so cute!" or weirdly seductive. (not to say I'm not seduced by Paulina ⁄(⁄ ⁄·⁄ω⁄·⁄ ⁄)⁄) I do love a good BL though...
I like Pauliana! I just see much more potential with it being a BL. Also if you’re not into the cutesy/seductive female lead, I suggest http://www.mangago.zone/read-manga/light_shadow/, i love edna she is my queen.
This story being a Bl would make it lost all the hardship she went through as a woman. And story King x Soldier(M) are so common.
I'm very glad to see this kind of story with a woman who don't fall in love and start to be stupid. She like him but she as her duty and stick by it. SHe is a hardworking woman.

I actually only read BL, but this story lives from showing a (really) strong woman, it would be kinda boring if Pauliana would be a guy ╮(￣▽￣)╭ It would just bei another BL story with the same problems. Now we have something new and it's awesome ヾ(☆▽☆)
