this is pretty damn interesting!
from my point of view, i think that albert is not dead because remember how he came to the house on the day before anna was leaving so he couldn’t be dead. but i do think that they switched at some point of time in the story, probably they switched genders/roles when anna was going to college. i think that the one that charlotte is sending letters to is actually albert and the supposed “marquess” is actually anna the whole time.
