I think that omegaverse shows that fate is not enough to break feeling built step by step...so i don't think that kaoru and rin had one chance to finish together since the beginning...also Spoiler...rin will loose his memory because of the medecine (chap16-17)

And just like kaoru said that him being with Rin wouldn't also guarantee happiness and for me that's exactly the case if Kaoru chose Rin, Kaoru would end up hurting Rin more it maybe physically, mentally or emotionally due to frustration and regret.

It's my fav yaoi now. I rly cried a lot lol... Like when rin saw kaoru... Ugh heart breaking. And when bad boy said "I lost my pair at a very young age." UGHHHH. Actually I wished that rin and kaoru finish together bc the relation between kao and Yuka was not very developed... But now I'm just so happy but still it feels weird cause it's not their matttte
