I can't claim that the MC cares but that plant was basically an extremely rare national treasure and anyone caught with it would be arrested and interrogated (tortured most likely) on how they got it. No one would believe that they just found it laying around. They can't exactly hide it very well either if incurable patients suddenly started recovering for seemingly no reason. It would start a witch hunt.

Maybe it's because of all that's happening in the world right now, so I might be hypersensitive to people suffering but the MC had the ability to help everyone in the hospital, not just the little girl. Even if she wanted to remain anonymous, she could have left the plant in the hospital where a nurse or a doctor could find it. Or maybe she doesn't care about saving people, which is also fine, not what I look for in an MC but it fine.
