Honestly, if you look at the dynamic between Kikyo and Inuyasha vs Kagome vs Inuyasha, it’s really different. With Kagome, Inuyasha had more of a high school love with Kagome. He appeared more obnoxious, reckless, and silly. With Kikyo, he was still him but he was more serious and calm. I always noticed how his demeanor changed depending on which girl he was with. To me, Inuyasha appeared more of a man when he was with Kikyo. Their relationship was more mature than his with Kagome. I am not saying Inuyasha would change himself for Kikyo because Kikyo has seen him act up and throw a fit. But how he speaks to Kikyo changes in the anime during the scene when Kikyo states that she felt similar to Inuyasha in the fact that she was human but she couldn’t act as a normal human which is the reason she could not kill Inuyasha. He says it isn’t like her to make excuses and she gives him a sad smile and says he’s right. I think this is the moment Inuyasha realized Kikyo was as lonely as he was. Kikyo was unhappy with life but she continued to do her duties whereas humans nor demons accepted Inuyasha so he continued to dispise both parties. The mutual connection and wanting to save each other from their loneliness is what made those two respect each other and fall in love. I think this plays into how Inuyasha became more caring and comfortable around Kikyo. His growth with Kikyo is what I liked as a child. With Kagome, it was their similar stubborn personalities that drew them in closer. They bickered constantly but they developed infatuations with each other. With Kagome and Inuyasha, one had to be in charge of the other which often caused the source of their arguments. However, Kagome tried to understand the kind of person Inuyasha was and she accepted him. The only other person that ever did that was Kikyo. Now I say that because Inuyasha had an extremely tough time letting go of Kikyo due to their previous relationship and her being his first love and people had a hard time grasping that. With Kikyo, Inuyasha found someone who shared the same experiences as him and wanted better for him. With Kagome, he found someone who helped him accept himself and others. It’s like in that one episode where both Kikyo and Kagome agree they both are important parts in Inuyasha ‘s life. I think the preference in which couple you like more depends on your preference in relationship ideals. Mine was Kikyo because they had more of a mutual grounding and mature communication amongst each other. Kagome and Inuyasha had more of a fiery romance going on but it was more drama filled than I liked. I think with Kikyo and Inuyasha, they didn’t let other things get inbetween the problems they had while Kagome and Inuyasha were had trouble listening to each other but eventually one gave in. I’m saying this because a lot of my friends that like Kagome and Inuyasha tend to like more upbeat go-for-it girls but I preferred someone who won’t act out the same bs that the other does and has their own priorities.
