I think I agree with you. It's not a positive trope, and definitely feels uncomfortable but I think the issue most people have is with how the rape is portrayed almost as a normal thing in the omegaverse(but it is a serious crime in reality). However, I think if you are sensitive to topics such as rape/forced anything then you shouldn't read any omegaverse. If the story has value and fills the satisfaction which we came to read a romantic story between males,(with growth, I love me some character and relationship development) then I can differentiate what happens in it to our own universe/reality.
I don't really understand how someone could want rape. It's rape if you don't want it, and are physically and mentally hurt by it. They probably just like rough sex, adrenalin rushes from dangerous situations, or maybe hookups with random people. But it's not rape if they enjoy and want it. I guess it's fine as content, if the rest of the story is well-made, but I feel like rough but consensual sex is a much better option, and hurtful tropes shouldn't be encouraged.
Hey guys I really wanted to bring this topic up under this manga cause I really would like to get as many opinions on this as I can because I'm really curious what other people think about this subject.
I think there's a lot of people that take omegaverse too seriously, it is not slice of life work that attempts to mirror reality with plausible scenarios and relatable content that we would see in every day mundane life. Omegaverse is anything but that. It is a made-up world with made-up laws, a made-up hierarchy and made up biology.
People tend to have really strong opinions about the prevalent rape as well (as they should). Here's the thing though, rape happens in literally almost all mangas, and trust me I've read LOTS of omegaverse content. This is what I'm curious about, where I live in the West rape is illegal, its a crime that gets people thrown in jail and it is extremely morally wrong. Has this even been addressed in omegaverse? Is rape even really a thing in the fictitious world of omegaverse? Is it illegal? Is it a crime? It is of course very traumatic to (usually) the omegas that are on the receiving end as it is unwanted and non-consentual but the omgeverse people are seen as more animalistic than a regular human.
WE scorn upon the rape because most of us do not posses cognitive dissonance, we think of ourselves as consistent people with consistent views on topics. We KNOW rape is bad so when we see it we immediately think "this is horrible content" using our own real-world knowledge and views. But we shouldn't be applying our real-world knowledge to a fictitious world that differs greatly from our own. I think we need to accept that that's just how this universe operates and we shouldn't get too upset about it and start "cancelling" characters and content because of what happens. if you truly get bothered so much about it then I would suggest dropping the entire universe as a genre of interest because this trope doesn't seem to be going away any time soon, unless you find the few and far between mangas/webtoons that don't have rape. I just want to know what others think about this, if anyone agrees, disagrees, has any points of their own they'd like to make.
Just to clarify though, I do not think rape is ok and I think it is a horrible crime to commit in the real world. I can also understand however how some people do have rape fetish/fantasies that they are too afraid to admit or act on in real life so they turn to content that contains it to find satisfaction, I think we should be mindful of that.
