I also prefer when the "uke" isn't stereotypical. But I'm one of those people who just prefer switch couples everywhere. Sexual dynamics in yaoi are chosen in terms of a character's look and personality. Like "this one is small and cute so he has to be the uke" "this one is tall and handsome so obviously he's the seme" = those are the stereotypical ones. But even those who are not stereotypical are chosen in terms of looks and personality : "this one is a delinquent so he's the uke" "this one is taller so he has to be the uke" "this one is cuter so it's better if he's the the seme", once again, their sexual dynamics will be based on their looks only (whether it is stereotypical or not). Sexual dynamics and positions shouldn't have anything to do with looks and personality. And it's a shame that couples in yaoi can't explore all the sexual possibilities just because their looks and personalities are assimilated to their sexual positions. And as I said, it work for stereotypical and non stereotypical ones. It is my point of view but if I see a muscular uke with a small seme and I say that I want them to switch, it wouldn't be because I prefer the yaoi cliché (I actually kinda hate it lol) but just because I want a couple who explore possibilities, to see all the possible dynamics, chemistries and positions. There is a difference between someone who want to see an open couple who explore all the sexual prospects and someone who says "oh no it would have been better if this one was the uke!" (those ones gets on my nerves). You see what I mean? (let's be clear I'm not picking a fight with you, I'm just explaining my point of view, dear friend! I hope it you understood ٩(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)۶

I was just saying that most of those comments I see are in those kinds of mangas/webtoons, and at first it didn’t bother me but then I noticed where those comments were, and for me it got s little irksome. I totally get that some just wants reverses couple to explore, I would love to see more of that!
If I did research and got the stats for it (lmao can you imagine, yaoi research) I feel like most comments like those would fall under those types of manga/webtoon (I could be wrong, just basing it on what I see), then it kind of implies something.

It’s kind of like, with tan charas, most is usually portrayed as the antagonist chara, or like a background chara, or really slutty (esp in hentai), or in a neg light, it just becomes like a norm. You just start to notice things

I completely hear what you're saying and I agree! When a BL has an 'uke' that is more muscular, taller, has shorter hair, or looks 'seme-like', there tends be a consensus that the couple should be 'seke' in order to appeal to the more stereotypical BL couple. For me, I love to see the smaller, softer, pretty boy on top every once in a while!ლ(´ڡ`ლ)
I'll admit, alot of Yaoi I've read would be much improved if the relationship was 'seke' or 'riba'(reversible). Not necessarily based off their looks, but more like their personalities and relationship dynamic.

Oh okay I get it. Like, they want it to be reversible so they could enjoy the traditional roles. It's a shame, for me, it's just that I don't want the characters to be "stuck" with only one role (even if the characters are non traditional). ┗( T﹏T )┛

I don’t mind seke roles! There should be more of them, no lie tho I did liek the orange hair as the uke, idk why I just found it cute!
Me, I tend to want to find ukes that are not the traditional kind (girlyish looking that’s like small and always on the softer side[?]; not to say I don’t liek them and don’t read them cuz I do and it’s great in a way), and more of a boyish, tough uke.
Like for instance, I love it when they have really short hair, with no bangs that give you a boyish look, and if they have maybe a more masculine or tougher build than their seme, or if their tan (we need more tan charas in general), or like you know not your stereotypical ukes, I tend to like a lot! I’m honestly talking about appearances here rather than personality. Also charas Like delinquents that generally have a more rough appearance. I also LOVE plain/ugly , they are so rare and it is just so cute, ukes that have freckles too are golden cuz we need more freckles chara, or those that have sanpaku eyes!
But really kinda annoys me when people say certain couples should’ve been seke (not pertaining to this one lol) is that they are usually on webtoon/manga where they uke is not your stereotypical chara (one that would normally be seen as seme). Comments like “oh it would’ve been better if this was seke” or “I wish this was a seke couple” it really gets on my nerves because I always see it on those types of manga/webtoons (your non-traditional uke)
Like I completely understand why people say it but it’s kind of like, oh if a manly chara is on bottom then this has the potential to be a seke, as if those types of chara can’t just be bottom and has the potential to switch cuz traditionally they are seen as tops. Like I don’t ever see people comment that on your traditional uke :/
Again I understand why people want switches, I would love to see them too but sometimes I just want those non-traditional ukes. I honestly have no idea why I’m putting this here, I had these thoughts for a while and I thought hey why not put it here where there’s a seke couple!
