I dropped the novel for this reason. I'm white as hell but i was happy assssfff when the main mc wasnt a white female. To me, the mc looks exotic and i loved it but when the changed her appearance...especially her color, it fucked me off.
But she was not black? She was never ment to be black. If she had been born with grey skin in the novel no one would bat a eye. I feel like people are trying to change what it meens to justfiy feeling upset about it. People are always going to find a way to make it about being offended but that doesnt always make it right. White washing would be if she had a black and white parent then the light spirit made her white and everyone would be happy. Thats white washing.
No she wasn't born black conventionally however she was in appearance. And honestly you. An think whatever u want but it won't change how people feel about the fact that she was suddenly changed to fit beauty standards. I was just stating MY feelings like everyone else. Ur feelings are also valid but if you can't understand why some people are offended well .. that's not my problem to explain you can stay in your lane with your opinion.

Yeah I'm pissed as a dark skinned woman this is highly offensive that they intend to change her skin tone. This was the first manga I read and was like "oh finally a main black character" normally they are a side or second main at best. So I was extremely happy to see something different.
