I feel like its because there was so much emotion put into the painting of kotofuji, that it gained its own soul hence our kotofuji
To me he appears to be a tsukumogami, there's a lot of folk tales about them, it's kind of romantic *-*
Probably I'm just stupid but, if kotofuji is not kotofuji and the real kotofuji who lived with tsuguyasu disappeared, who the hell is our kotofuji?
