You are not wrong. The story is nice but it feels incomplete.
I think the story is kinda rush because like you say them falling in love doesn't make sense at all
Is not like love has to make any sense, is not algebra... It can happens in an instant, it can happens for no reason, it can takes time... But most of all, can take a lot of shapes, maybe is not as intense, but to people found their love in each other, subtle maybe but not less undeserving
But them falling in love doesn't seem to make sense at all - it was way too abrupt probably should have extended them becoming closer idk
