Well that’s called adaptations.. I am the deaf guy who’s raised in hearing mainstream school but I never really bothered with lip-readings and instead, I write on the papers and show them, or make gestures.
However, as for my deaf dad and deaf friends who was raised deaf with experience in lip-reading. They say it’s more easier to lip-read the person if they know that person for good amount of the time, probably raising up to 90% possibly of understanding the conversations.
Seeing how there are no more deaf people portrayed in the story, I do agree with you through because there are many deaf people in USA and in world than you imagined.
Is it just me or is the lack of sign language bothering anyone else, like its called SIGHN but it feels like sign language is more of an option than an necessarity.
Also I think its unrealistic how Yohan reads lips, because reading lips is a really hard and actual deaf people can only understand about 30% of a conversation from lip reading. Dont get me wrong I still enjoy the story but I feel annoyed in how the author is portraying deafness
