I dont like the ending... nothing was explained and it was just sad :/ it feels rushed

Okay looking back they actually ran into the water but then what was that science where there was 2 pairs of feet on the sand?

I thought that was just there to show them going into the water like the final step before it completely takes them? Unless I am wrong
