I was wondering the same thing... or perhaps he's pretending not to, being the sadist that he is, he could totally be pretending to use it against them both... for example, be intimate with Gabriel in front of Saliou (which the last panel imply something of sorts). I think he's getting a kick out of playing dumb and watching them more closely around each other.

You've got a point we'll learn in the following chapters. I like Paulo a bit more since he at least has a personality. Saliou doesn't show his personality much, the only thing we know is Mc is in love with him. Also Saliou didn't even remember him in the first place, imagine being obsessed with someone and they don't even remember you.

Yeah, I totally agree. I do sort of like Paulo more than Saliou only because we've got the chance to know him more as readers. Saliou is this mysterious almost mythical character that up to a point was his existence was nothing but a shadow of Gabriel's past. There is this tiny bit of appeal about Saliou because of the mystery his character represents, so some might find more downside to it the good. While on the other hand, Paulo has a different kind of mysterious persona = a sadist, manipulative, thinks less of humans (only sees them as foods or toys to be played with), and good in bed (LMAO). Hence, his appeal. Meanwhile, all we've gotten from Saliou = childhood friend from the past whom MC is obsessed with, a wolf, and is okay in bed, cares (?) about Gabriel... or killing Paulo more... There isn't enough information to analyze his character, so I try not to judge and call him "bland" because we don't know anything about him...I guess (?)

Here he says you'll never be able to replace saliou so Paulo should know that the image he's mimicking is sailou's.
Did the author forget this scene because it looks like Paulo is only suspicious yet he should actually know saliou is the one our uke loves.
